Multifunction Antennas
Multifunction antennas must operate reliably across many frequency bands despite interference.
Multifunction antennas in modern motor vehicles combine numerous communication and reception technologies into a single assembly. Consequently, the requirements for precise and reproducible end-of-line testing across different frequency ranges and signal types are correspondingly high.

Multifunction Antennas
For this purpose, MCD Elektronik developed an automated end-of-line test system that combines electrical, RF and mechanical testing in one continuous test sequence. A specially developed helical antenna for signal stimulation, product-specific adaptation and pneumatically controlled RF contacting enable reliable testing across the entire relevant frequency range.
MCD test software, together with the integrated control and data technology, handles the automated execution, evaluation and documentation of all tests, ensuring complete traceability.
The end-of-line test system verifies the relevant electrical, RF and mechanical functions of the multifunction antenna:

The antenna’s electrical parameters are automatically recorded and evaluated.
- Current measurement
- Voltage measurement
- Diagnostic functions
Signal transmission is tested across the entire relevant frequency range from 87.5 kHz to 2.7 GHz.
- AM
- FM
- DAB II
- GPS
- GLONASS
- SDARS
- TV
- LTE
- Mobile Communications
- CB Radio
- Protected Signals
The antenna’s mechanical properties and functions are tested using sensors.
- Mechanical testing with sensors
- Automatic detection functions
- Automatic switching functions
Electrical, high-frequency, and mechanical functions are combined and documented as part of an automated test sequence.
To ensure product quality, the EOL testing system combines electrical measurement methods, high-frequency tests, and mechanical functional tests.
The test solution combines MCD software, control and measurement technology, and an RF adapter specifically tailored to the multifunction antenna.
The combination of automated test software, product-specific high-frequency technology, and comprehensive documentation results in a reproducible end-of-line test solution for complex multifunction antennas. All relevant test values and results are automatically recorded and documented to ensure traceability in mass production.
